How Black Home Exterior Products Can Accentuate Exterior Design

Black is a timeless favorite when it comes to design, and home exterior design is no exception. In recent years, the modern farmhouse home exterior trend popularized the use of white cladding with black accents, but there are many other ways black doors, windows, siding accents, manufactured stone, and metal roofing can be used to enhance the overall design of a home’s exterior. Whether used as an accent to add depth and contrast, or as a stunning focal point, black exterior products can boost the overall design and curb appeal of a home. Here are a few ideas for incorporating black into your home’s exterior.
Black Exterior Doors Create a Focal Point
Timeless yet sophisticated, black exterior doors, including entry doors and storm doors, work well with Cape Cod, Craftsman, Farmhouse, Modern, and Tudor home exterior styles. When paired with white or light-colored cladding such as vinyl siding or manufactured stone, black doors become a contrasting focal point. Black also works well in a monochromatic color scheme with light- or medium-toned gray cladding materials. Black entry doors can even complement traditional, red-toned bricks to provide a classic, stately feel.
At ProVia®, Coal Black is one of our most popular entry door and storm door paint colors, and it’s not hard to see why so many homeowners choose it. In addition to painted door colors, we offer Ebony stain for fiberglass doors with Cherry, Mahogany, Oak, Knotty Alder, or Fir skins. Here are some of our favorite ways homeowners have featured black entry or storm doors on their homes.

Black Windows and Patio Doors Add Contrast to Light Cladding While Deepening the Look of Dark Cladding
White has been the predominant color choice for as long as vinyl windows have existed, but that’s one reason black stands out so much. Black painted windows and patio doors can provide striking contrast against white or light-colored vinyl siding, but they can also work well with other dark colors—such as dark gray vinyl siding—when the sharp contrast of white windows isn’t desired.
Our Endure™ vinyl window and patio door product line includes the option for all black on both the exterior and interior, as well as painted black jamb pockets, black weatherstripping, and a black Super Spacer® for the glass. This provides a visually seamless, all-black look.
For homeowners who desire black exterior windows or patio doors with a different interior color, both our Aeris™ and Endure windows and patio doors offer the option for a Coal Black painted exterior, with a variety of interior vinyl and laminate colors for Endure, and an array of wood-clad interior finishes for Aeris.
Here are some of our favorite all-black window and patio door looks.

Black stone veneer, black metal roofing, and siding accents and trim amplify a home's exterior color palette
Whether featured for contrast or with the intent of blending in for a seamless look, other black home exterior products to consider include:
- Black stone veneer, such as Terra Cut™ Graphite, Edge Cut™ Obsidian, PrecisionFit™ Onyx, and Thin Brick Midnight
- Black metal roofing, such as Coalstone Slate
- Black shake and shingle siding
- Black exterior trim accessories such as siding trim coil
- Black vinyl soffit
Soffit is not something most homeowners would think about, as it is typically installed under the eaves of a home’s roof, as well as under the ceilings of porches, decks, overhangs, and arches. However, choosing black vinyl soffit with the right exterior color palette can make a bold statement. Black soffit also conceals mildew and dirt better than lighter colored soffit. Coal Black is available as a color choice in the ProVia Woodhaven® and Universal soffit lines.

When considering black home exterior products, it’s important to think about how black can enhance the overall look of your home exterior color palette, whether it’s in an existing color scheme, or an overall palette you’re considering as part of a home exterior renovation.
Our 2D Visualizer tool lets you visualize doors, windows, siding, stone, and roofing on your home or a sample home so that you can see how various color and style options look when they’re all together.
