VICTORIAN HOME EXTERIOR STYLE

Victorian-style homes are named from the era in which they became popular—the Victorian era—during the 1800s. Gothic Revival, Italianate, Second Empire and Queen Anne-style homes are typically referred to as Victorian styles, as they share some of the same elaborate design elements and the time period in which they were built. The ornate characteristics found in Victorian architecture allow for intricate design features when it comes to Victorian door styles. It’s common to see Victorian front doors with glass, especially with decorative, privacy, or stained glass. More elaborate homes feature French doors, sidelites, or transoms.

Victorian window styles might include bay windows or shaped windows with ornate, decorative trim—often in bold colors—with decorative or stained window glass being a common accent feature.
